The 2019 Code for Canada Fellowship – Toronto Shelter Support & Housing Administration

♪♪♪ Homelessness is a real issue for most
cities around the world. Toronto is no
different. Shelter Support & Housing Administration,
our team, is really focused on providing
outstanding service to people who are experiencing
homelessness. Every night, we have a large shelter
system, we take care of more than 7100
individuals across 63 shelters across the city. We couldn’t be more excited to work with
Code for Canada fellows to come up with
new, innovative solutions to connect individuals with housing,
provide those supports and ultimately
keep people housed for a long time. Currently, there’s no system level
solution that allows us to understand the
needs of our clients. Clients are forced to explain their story
time and time again each time they’re
looking to access services. As a fellow with SSHA, you have the
opportunity to help us build a solution
to this problem. When you think about what this work is
actually going to do for clients, I can
talk to you about the better data it’s going to get us, I can talk to you
about the service system planning measures
it will allow us to employ, I can tell you about better KPIs and
measures and performance and outcomes, but the reality is this work is actually
going to allow you to be part of moving
someone from homelessness to housing. Think about the experience of somebody
who is currently homeless and because of this work they’ll actually
find themselves a home. Come join us at SSHA as a fellow. Come and bring human-centred design,
come and bring agile solutions. Come and work with some of the most
talented and passionate and fearless
people that I know. Come and help bring some of Toronto’s
most vulnerable people from homelessness
into housing.
