Royce Fellowship: Kelley Tackett ’20 & Parisa Thepmankorn ’20

My name is Kelly Tackett and this summer,
I’ll be working at Petra Archeological Park in Southern Jordan. My project
explores how archaeological knowledge production can better include and
prioritize indigenous or local community voices while thinking about how world
heritage narratives, like those at play in Petra Archaeological Park, can move
beyond the linear single temporality and include multi-temporal indigenous views. Hi, I’m Parisa. My Royce project was inspired by my recent revelation about
how much misunderstanding and stigma there is about mental illness in Asian
Americans today, an issue that affects both my family and the community at
large. For my fellowship, I’m hoping to gather a diverse collection of mental
illness narratives and see if and how these narratives can be used to help
address the current gaps in understanding and awareness about mental
illness in Asian Americans today.
