PERGOLESI // By Marlis Petersen, Marta Fumagalli, Coro e Orchestra Ghislieri & Giulio Prandi

I think it was two years ago when Giulio was coming to Vienna to see Idomeneo at the Theater an der Wien and I was doing Elektra at that time and he was very enchanted by my way of singing Mozart and he came to me after and said “You know we have this Ghislieri” and he explained a little bit what he is doing and if I would be willing to come to do music with him and I said of course I would love to. it’s like a new birth that
we give to this piece and also I have to say I’ve never seen different parts coming together and mingling so much like puzzle pieces that come together the choir, the orchestra, the soloists, the whole project, also those people that help doing everything it’s like a big family, it’s very exciting to be the first one to sing a piece which is like excavated from the old times and to perform it and also record it at the same time, it’s an honor and a great pleasure I think it’s very important to bring this opera around the world you know, I said to Giulio we have to, you know, the bring the mass and the motet are wherever possible, because people need to know about this I think that many don’t know about the sound of Pergolesi, maybe the specialists know but people that go to the concert halls they hear the usual things and they need to know this, you know, I think they’ll be blown away and I really want to help to do that, to bring it to the world
