Meet Wassim Nona, MD, Director of the Cardiovascular Fellowship Program | Ascension Michigan

I don’t think people go into medicine knowing
exactly what specialty or subspecialty they would like. It takes time. Within probably the second year of medical
school, once I was exposed to the cardiovascular physiology and the hemodynamics, to me, it
just made sense. Things made sense, how the heart works, and
pressure, and hemodynamics. That’s what initially attracted me to cardiology. Health providers should, for a minute, consider
if they were on the other side, and what would they want to have in a physician. You want someone to listen, someone who will
take your complaints seriously, and someone, quite honestly, who will do for you what they
would want done for themselves if they were in your shoes. Trust is extremely important. It’s the basis for establishing a long-term
relationship with a patient. I love golf. I have three kids who are in middle and high
school, so that takes a lot of work. You go from work here, to helping with homework,
which is many times more difficult than work here. In free time, the kids enjoy golfing as well. They enjoy the outdoors. We enjoy travel. We stay pretty busy.
