Master of Business Analytics

Master of Business Analytics

Our Master of Business Analytics isn’t an
ordinary analytics degree it will provide you with the skills and
knowledge to not just be an expert in maths and technology but approach
analytics with the strategic perspective of the business in mind. It’s this
component of business impact that clearly differentiates us from analytics
degrees that are offered in stats departments or IT departments in many universities around the world. At A.T. Kearney we recruit graduates from the Master of Business Analytics to help us build such capabilities for our clients.
The upside of data analytics is that businesses can see the benefits – it leads
to change and improvement and the ultimate goal of increased business growth. Whether it’s predictive analytics, inside analytics or optimisation, the
analysis of data to solve problems and help businesses make better, more
informed decisions across varying domains is delivering competitive
advantage for those investing in analytic capability. That’s why demand for
professionals possessing these skills is increasing at an exponential rate. In contrast with this massive demand in
the marketplace, the supply of graduates to satisfy that demand is unfortunately
highly limited. Employers are looking for graduates who are trying linguists who
can speak the languages of maths, technology and business. It’s this demand
from employers as articulated by our Industry Advisory Board that led
Melbourne Business School to design an intensive one year, full-time program in
business analytics. Coming into a graduate role at Quantum which is both analytical and client facing, I truly feel that the Master of Business Analytics
has equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary for the role. From
understanding the data warehouse to manipulating the data with programming and statistics, I can confidently present deliverables to clients through data
visualisation and soft skills gained as part of the program. I’m also very
grateful for all the learnings I gained throughout my degree from world class
faculty. I like the fact that the MBS program is
only one year so it wouldn’t be too long a career break and also the fact that
there is the industry practicum, so every student gets the opportunity to put what we’ve learnt into practice. I definitely have to say that one of the
best things about the program was the practicum, where we were given the
opportunity to work on real-world problems. Not only did it allows me to put the
technical and soft skills I learned into practice but it also gave me a taste of
the corporate world that was to come. Analytics is a team sport. By collaborating with industry partners like Brightstar, the Center for Business Analytics and the Melbourne Business School has developed a program to give students and communication skills to be effective in team environments. Brightstar is proud to support the
practicum program that see’s Masters students work with our data scientists on real-world projects. While the Master of Business Analytics
teaches you how to crunch numbers I’m also learning about soft skills. These are
the personal skills required to influence, teaching me to sell
recommendations from data to key executives by developing my
self-awareness, communication and leadership skills. Of course, nothing beats the long lasting friendships made such bright, inspiring and genuine people who share the same passion for analytics and data despite now being in different parts of the world.
