Johns Hopkins Breast Surgery Fellowship | Dr. Doris Quintana

(gentle music)>>I’m Doris Quintana, and I’m a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellow at the Johns Hopkins
Hospital in Baltimore. I started my career as a general surgeon, but when I realized that in order to do the best job possible
taking care of patients, I really needed to focus just on that. The pioneers of breast
surgery are here at Hopkins, and there’s been so many advances made in the field of breast surgery that this was the obvious place
to come for further study. My clinical practice is
dedicated to the whole spectrum of breast disease, operating
on patients with breast cancer, coordinating care with
the entire breast team, and treating patients at
high risk for breast cancer. By taking that additional year of breast surgical oncology training, you really have that added specialization that allows you to better care
for breast cancer patients. Without the support of the PVDA, the breast surgery
fellowship might not have the funding source that
can be relied upon. And many academic centers fellowships have had to be eliminated
because of a lack of funding. But through the support of the PVDA, the breast surgical oncology fellowship at Johns Hopkins will continue to thrive. (gentle music)
