Johnny Depp settles $25 million lawsuit against former business managers – Daily News

  Johnny Depp and his former business managers have settled a multimillion dollar lawsuit over his finances  The Hollywood actor, 55, sued the Management Group in January 2017 and accused them of fraud, theft and financial mismanagement, allegations they denied  .  He was seeking 25 million dollars (£18.9 million) in damages.  The company, led by Joel and Robert Mandel, filed a countersuit a month later seeking $550,000 in unpaid fees and damages  They said the actor had been responsible for his financial woes, accusing him of spending millions of dollars on luxury homes, wine, art and a cannon used to scatter the ashes of writer Hunter S Thompson  .  It said: “Johnny Depp is pleased to have achieved a settlement agreement with The Management Group following the legal action he took against the company in January 2017  “The lawsuit taken out against The Management Group – and the subsequent settlement – is a further demonstration that Johnny is determined to take firm action to protect his personal and artistic reputation in the interests of his family and his career ”  The statement added: “Johnny extends his most sincere thanks and appreciation to the true supporters that have shown their loyalty to both him and his family over recent years ”  A trial that was scheduled to begin in Los Angeles on August 15 will now not go ahead  , however a source close to The Management Group said it was “pleased with the settlement ”  Depp was ranked by Forbes as Hollywood’s highest paid actor in 2010 with earnings of $75 million, mostly from the Piratesof the Caribbean movie franchise Read More Read more on Johnny Depp  The settlement came as promotions were gearing up for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, a spinoff sequelfrom the Harry Potter movies in which Depp plays a youngerversion of Grindelwald, who embodies the dark forces in thewizarding world  The film is due in cinemas in November.
