Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships: This is my Endeavour – a Chinese perspective

♪ (Music Playing) ♪ My name is Haiyan Wang and this is my Endeavour. I’m Zhang Bicong. This is my Endeavour. My name is Song Fengqi. This is my Endeavour. My name is Haiqing Wang and this is my Endeavour. I got this award and was in WA for three months in West Coast Institute of Technology. One of my Indonesian friends actually told me she had friends apply for the scholarship and she said it was awesome. It’s a six months stay. It’s long enough for do something and it’s short enough to keep something fresh. I wrote the proposal in a very sincere way. It is truly the issue I wanted to talk about. When I received the email I couldn’t believe it was true. Really, it was true. My family, they were very proud of me, especially my daughter. She said ‘Mum you are my idol.’ ♪ (Music Playing) ♪ We have supported almost 250 students from China to study in Australia. It encourages better understanding between our professionals, our researchers, our teachers. This is absolutely vital if we are to work together to tackle the big challenges of the future. ♪ (Music Playing) ♪ The main benefit from it is intellectual inspirations and I learn lots about gender which I didn’t know before. Australia is a country I used to think I know but when I was there I think I understand the culture more, I understand the people more. I feel I can go to Australia and understand Australia. It’s very nice to keep open minded. It really opened me the door to – to a research area that I find so fascinating and so important to our society. Now I’m the national expert on occupational health and safety. You cannot imagine that before and now I am. ♪ (Music Playing) ♪ I told my friends. Some of them applied this fellowship later and got it. I think you should make louder voices so that the others know these are such wonderful programs there. I would like to encourage a lot more people from China to apply for the program. We would like to support many, many more of Chinese best and brightest scientists, researchers, teachers and professionals to have an endeavour in Australia. ♪ (Music Playing) ♪
