The nonprofit business model canvas is
perfect for rapid prototyping and solving problems in your business model. So let’s talk more about using the
canvas to test assumptions. Testing assumptions means looking at
challenges from a different angle. By asking different questions you might be
able to dig up some challenges you haven’t seen before. The nonprofit business model canvas
gives your team a creative and structured framework to do just that. Once everyone is clear on the current
canvas you can go forth and ask the really tough questions. So try this out during your next meetup:
Which resources activities and partnerships cost the most? What features have become less valuable
over time? What would you really like to improve? What opportunities would you
like to capture or maximize? Imainge where you’d like your organization to be in
one year. What would you have to change in the
business model to make those ideas happen? happen What might you be assuming that you
don’t necessarily have to? What takes up a lot of time? Once you
have your ideas, suggestions and feedback, focus on these four actions to create a
new prototype What things do you have to eliminate?
What things do you have to reduce or scale back? What things do you have to raise or
amplify? And what things do you have to create anew? You are free to tweak these
questions to your liking. Remember the goal is to overcome
assumptions to sense the present and imagine a new future. You could even use this as a starting
point for a new strategic plan So that’s it. It all comes from asking
