πŸ”΄DOES EVERYONE NEED A VPN ? (THE TRUTH)

πŸ”΄DOES EVERYONE NEED A VPN ? (THE TRUTH)

OK so question number one can your ISP
actually see you making a connection to a VPN server and now the quick answer to
that is is yes because you have to understand the job of your ISP is to
actually route or route your internet traffic so when you want to make a
connection to a server or a website or let’s say for example Netflix the job of
your ISP is to route that traffic from your router or router on to those
Netflix servers because they need to basically pass on a traffic for you or
route the traffic so in the case of me using a VPN server let’s say for example
in Germany the ISP will have to route that traffic from my route or onto that
VPN server because that’s how the data that’s what the data will transmit from
me onto that server now in terms of can actually see the contents of that
connection and the answer is no because of the encryption because of that secure
tunnel that you create when you’re making any kind of connection to any VPN
server they will not be able to see the content so in summary yes they can see
making connection to a VPN server but no they cannot see the contents of that
connection next question will I lose speed when using a VPN well again the
quick answer to that is yes because you have to understand when you’re going via
VPN server you’re not getting direct to your target destination so let’s say I
want to browse web site in France without using a VPN that connection
request will go from my machine in the UK to that server direct in France now
if I’m going to go via a VPN server which is somewhere else then adding that
extra hop in the journey will invariably or inevitably lose some of that speed
the question is always how much speed you’ll lose now that’s determined by a
number of factors including things like how far the VPN server is from you how
busy the VPN server is that you’re using how much capacity that VPN server has
but one of the key things that people don’t realize it also depends on what
device you’re using so meeting the speed test on my 4k firestick versus meeting a
speed test on a cheap Android box or maybe meeting a speed test on my high
powered computer those three devices because it will have different
processing power it will actually yield completely different results and the
reason for that is the job of your computer or your Android box or your
fire stake you do actually enable your VPN client
is to actually encrypt that data so because your software is actually
encrypting that data that is going to cause CPU overhead that is going to have
some kind of memory overhead and because of that depending on how fast your
device is that will also affect the speed so let’s just demonstrate that in
real life top left hand side is my computer without any VPN running and we
can see I get run by a 70 Meg on the top right of enabled ipvanish and we can see
again run about 60 mega so I’ve lost about 10 Meg and on the bottom left I’m
using my Mihkel box and there we can see I’ve lost about 25 mega sauce so we can
see the more power that the box has or my computer in this case it has a less
impact on the speed the slow your boxes or the slow your devices that will have
a greater impact on your overall speed with VPN so in summary yes your speed
will be affected but depending on what device you’re using which VPN server
you’re connecting to how far the VPN server is and how busy that VPN server
is will audit Ehrman how much speed you’ll actually lose and this card leads
on to the next question which is does my device actually make a difference to
what kind of speeds I get and absolutely yes guys so you doing a speed test on an
Nvidia shield versus doing a speed test on a second generation fire stick that’s
going to be night and day difference because again your device is required to
make that encryption or do that encryption so the more power you have
the better general performance you’ll get in that particular VPN speed test ok
that leads on to the next question which is are all VPN videos sponsored well I
would say if you do see any kind of you know links in the description saying you
know get this VPN oh this is the VPN I recommend then generally and by Lodge
there’s all going to be affiliated links like I can definitely tell you the links
or my video description they are affiliated with both ipvanish and node
VPN so I mean they’re the VPNs I use anyway so if I’m going to make a
recommendation it is going to be the ones that I use but pretty much all of
the major VPN providers all of them do allow you to sign up as an affiliate so
if you can encourage your friends and family to sign up then you can actually
you know earn a bit of commission from that but the way I will see it guys is
if you’re going to get a VPN anyway then if you do buy a VPN using the link that
I provide then yes I will get some Commission
it’s kind of like an indirect way of supporting my channels so and if you
guys are thinking about doing that then just using that link in the video
description does actually support my channel so if you can’t do that and grai
if not no problem next up we have probably one of the most sensitive ones
which is does everybody need a VPN now for this one I would say it does depend
on a case-by-case basis depending on where you are you know what country what
you’re trying to do what kind of content neutral access all of these are
different factors in determining whether you really need to have a VPN on or and
I would just say straight off the bat it’s not 100% yes or 100% no for
everybody because it really does depend on your situation so let’s say for
example you know you want to use some kind of public Wi-Fi and you want to do
your online banking online shopping and that example 100% I would actually
recommend using a VPN because you know public Wi-Fi eyes are not secure you
know anybody could be snooping anybody could be you know being anything on
there so if you are going to do anything that’s you know somewhat sensitive then
I would always recommend using a VPN now on the flip side if all you’re going to
do on your computer is just watch Netflix or just watch Hulu or Disney
Plus those are just normal streaming services and unless you’re trying to
access your restricted content from those services then really I can’t see
any benefit of using a VPN so in summary guys I’d say it really does depend on
what you’re trying to do now if you do want to do things like torrenting maybe
want to download some you know content or some movies or some games or things
that maybe you know be copyright in your country and at the same time you don’t
your ISP knowing what you’re doing then in that example or even things like you
know streaming apks if you know you are streaming content that could be
potentially deemed illegal and you don’t your ISP knowing what you’re doing then
there’s no question guys I would recommend using a VPN and in terms of
what VPN is the safest which one I recommend as I previously mentioned guys
the tude I personally use is ipvanish and Nord and if you do want to check
those out then I will leave a link in the video description but again guys I’m
not trying to any kind of push here it’s totally up to you whichever VPN you want
to use but if you’re the kind of person that is doing something that they don’t
necessarily want their ISP seeing what they’re doing then 100% a VPN is a must
next up we have what is a VPN kill switch so this is a quite interesting
feature and it is available in most of the premium VPNs certainly in
I pee vanish and also Nord and what this means is when you’re enable it you have
two options either you can able it as a complete system wide setting which means
you cannot do anything on your computer or your under box or your fire stake or
really you know any device that you have until you enable the VPN so what does
that means you’re trying to browse the Internet or you’re trying to use a
streaming application you’re trying to download something none of these
activities because they all require internet access will actually work until
you enable your VPN so it is a quite strict way of doing it but again if you
do care about you know having 100% privacy and you really don’t want your
ISP seeing anything eating online then that’s really the best option the second
version of the kill switch is not as extreme and what that means is you can
basically set a few applications so maybe you can set up your torrent
application or maybe you could set up cert and streaming apks and you can say
these applications can only run if the VPN is running but the rest of the
things when you device just normal browsing or using other applications
they can all run happily without using any VPN the only ones that you care
about the ones that you particularly assign to the kill switch and in both
examples guys if your VPN gets terminated for whatever reason it will
actually block your internet connection so that way you can be 100% rest assured
no activity is going to happen on your device until your VPN is running the
next one’s quite interesting one which is a also very common question which is
do you need to use a VPN when using real debride now the people they don’t know
real debride is a premium service which means it is something you have to pay
for but once you pay for it then you’ll you know care application or your you
know the streaming applications they can all take advantage of premium for
lockers so these are generally you know high performing high bandwidths the fall
servers or for lockers which contain higher quality media which can only be
accessed by other people that are also using that premium service so sometimes
of having buffering or having that issue where so many people all trying to
hammer the free servers if you do use wrote the rid because you’re using
premium servers then typically you’re not affected by that and the key thing
here is if your ISP was to check the logs all they can see is attacked off UK
was making a connection to the root bridge servers they cannot see anything
that I’m doing or sending or receiving from this world a bit server so if
there’s any kind of you know Turrentine going on if there’s any kind of
streaming going on from the debride servers dice people be able to
see the contents of their all they can see is the I made a connection to the
road the bridge server so typically and I’ll say for most people you don’t need
to use a VPN when using Rhoda bread the honey slight caveat is is that real de
bridge where she keep a log and it is actually in their privacy policy that
they do keep a log of all IPs the access their service and they also keep a log
of all the data that was actually accessed using their service so if
you’re that cautious that you don’t even ruled a Brit to see what you’re doing
then it may be worthwhile using a VPN but generally for most people when using
Rhoda bread a VPN is not required so guys let me just say many thanks for
watching this video and especially watching it till the end if you did find
this video useful then please do give it a thumbs up I mean these questions are
trying to answer I mean they’re probably the most common
questions I’ve had over the last few months regarding VPN so I hope your
question was in there if you have any other questions regarding VPNs or really
any other tech topic then please do leave me a comment below because I’m
actually start a new series based on the question that you guys asked in the
comments and then I’ll make a video answering this question so if you guys
think that’s a good idea then please do give this video a thumbs up also leave
me a comment below let me know you think and I’ll hopefully catch up with you
guys real soon thanks

  9. Wifis in hotels , can they see the content that is being transfered thru the vpn we are connected to ? I dont mean the ISP . Hotels , gyms and etc get the internet connection and service from isp but the administrator in the hotel and gym can watch the content even if we connected to a vpn ? According my experience they can see , cuz i examined it with adult sites , after sometime the site gets blocked ! I cannot open it anymore eventho im connected to the vpn

  10. Sooo, I use IP Vanish on my Nvidia Shield with my Football requirements. As far as I am concerned this is the only reason I need a VPN. When I need to download shit I use Opera with their VPN facility running. This works fine for all the torrent sites and allows me to not only access but download any torrent files I need. What more do you need in this day and age??? Keep up the good work TechDoctorUK, onwards and upwards…………….

  11. You have done the most thorough explaination on how a VPN works that i've ever seen on YT… and it only took a 10 minute video! Thank You πŸ‘βœŒ

  12. Hey Tduk, I have a question. I tried using the Opera browser that has a built in vpn on my desktop to get some "legal" files wink wink, and even tho it displayed a different IP address than mine I still received a "letter" Have u ever heard of Operas VPN just flat out not working? (Out of about 50 files I was flagged for 13 of them)

  13. Great post BRO! Sharing on my site soon. In Canada no VPN is needed when only streaming. Definitely needed if downloading. Maybe do a post on running Open VPN on a powerful, dual processor model with DDWRT on a separate router?

  14. Another informative video, yes to, question answered videos. Plus, why less and less links on real- debris, and more buffering on real-debrid links??

  15. Thanks TD, you have informed me of what I really wanted to know about as I am thinking about getting Rd & was wondering do I need to use my VPN, thanks buddy πŸ‘

  16. Hi TechDoc great video as usual

One question that I repeatedly fail to find a straight answer for anywhere on the web

Do you need a VPN for IPTV?

Apk, torrenting etc I get I use RD or my VPN

But I pay for IPTV for premium channels from here, USA etc now obviously even though I pay they are probably NOT official streams
Now should I use a VPN when watching IpTV?
    Does my ISP care?
Can I get letters from ISP for watching without a VPN?
Does it matter if I watch a generic channel, a premium movie channel or football on the weekend or is it all the same?

    Thanks doc

  17. Hi what APK would you recommend to watch tv shows or movies?
I have tried so many different APKS that they only work for a little time and to be totally honest the shows & movies that r being produce now a days R total TRASH!
Even try watching certain sports which R water down or fixed in my opinion. Thanks if I get a reply I will give it a try

  18. I've been using PC's since 1996 and ive never had a VPN. (I've used tor before but that's free) and I've been for pirating for all that time, all sorts of neferious activities. So the simple answer is clearly…. no you don't need a VPN lol

  19. "AnonyTun Pro" and "Secure Tunnel" are free VPNs that works. I tested them on over 6 leak testing sites for more than 2 days.

  20. Unless you're a baddy (looking for hitmen, kiddy porn, false witnesses, etc); you don't need a VPN. If you're a pirate; there are many streaming / dl sites for movies / tv shows / games where you simply don't need P2P (which nails you for uploading). With firefox and possibly other browsers there is FVD, Jdownloader, etc. If you're into movies and tv shows; just do a search for x265, PSA, Tigole for the best quality.

  21. Thank you for all the great videos! I have been using my VPN for everything, now I will think twice about using it with the information you provided! Is it safe to use the live sports streaming apps with a VPN?
